Can i take my tongue ring out for a day without it closing?

ive had my tongue pierced for about 7 years...lately the top ball has been digging into the roof of my mouth and it left a little imprint which is a little sore. i wanted to take it out while i sleep for just 1 night and put it back in when i wake up. do you think it will close????
