What does it mean when you're told bronchitis has "settled"?

A week ago, I coughed up one ball of yellow phlegm the size of a quarter. That was the only time I coughed something up though. Have been having a hard time breathing lately and have had a few asthma attacks. Saw the doctor and he said that it could be that bronchitis has "settled". What does that mean?
